You never claimed to be a victim. Through the struggles and unrelenting pain you endured, you never thought of yourself as a victim. The trials made you stronger. The tribulations made you wiser. You gained everything and lost only trivial objects, if you could call a person an object, which you did. Your view of the past did not deter everyone else from glancing at you, guilt swimming in their eyes. People whispered behind your back, spewing sympathy. Their words meant nothing to you. The events of your past were just that, the past. It had no hold on you. You refused to let your past get in the way of the present and possibly the future. You had too much pride for that.

What made people pity you so much? Well, it involved your parents. Of course, another sob story from a girl with daddy and mommy problems. Its so typical, right? Wrong. You didn’t have fights with your parents. They were very nice people, giving you the type of love everyone else was jealous of. They bought you countless gifts during the holidays, saying nothing was too good for their baby girl. Oh how you wished it would have been because of love. You spent years wondering what your life would be like if you were still a simple human being, though your parents made sure that you weren’t.

~Flashback~

On your eighteenth birthday, your parents had planned a party for you. The three of you decided it should just be a family party, including only your mother, father, and of course you. When you walked into your home, the smell of (favorite meal) drifted into your nostrils. You made your way to the kitchen where your mother was icing a rather large cake.

“You didn’t have to do all of this Mom,” you exclaimed. Money had been tight lately, so you didn’t expect much on your birthday.

“Nonsense! Nothing is too good for my little girl,” she replied, striding towards you. She placed a sweet kiss on your forehead and then proceeded to ice the cake. “Your father is in the backyard with your present, by the way. Just give me a few minutes to ice the cake, and then we can go see it.” She squealed a little, scrunching her face up in excitement. “I can’t wait to see your face when you finally see your present!”

You laughed at her child-like behavior. She had always been so full of joy and excitement while your father remained more stoic and calm. They were a nice contrast to each other, and they were so in love. You wished that one day someone would look at you the way your father looked at your mother.

“All done! Let’s go!”

Your mother gripped your wrist tightly, almost dragging you out of the kitchen and to the backyard. In the middle of the yard, your father stood with his back facing you. His arms were bent as if he was hiding something in his hands. Slowly, he turned, revealing a small jewelry box in his hand. His smile stretched from one ear to the other, obviously proud of the gift he obtained for his daughter.

“Your mother and I have been saving this for you since you were a little girl. We discovered this ring while we were on our honeymoon in New York.” Your father opened the box to reveal a glowing gem trapped in a silver band. The gem seemed to change colors repeatedly like a miniature light show.

Your father placed the ring on your finger, glancing at you once it was secured. The ring demanded your complete attention. It held your gaze for several minutes until something strange happened. The ring began to grow until it covered the length of your index finger.

“What’s happening?!” You attempted to pry the object off of you, but it wouldn’t budge. Instead, the ring grew until it encased your entire hand. A small whimper escaped your lips as an electrical shock spread throughout your body. You fell to your knees, screaming in pain.

“Don’t worry, sweetie,” your mother said softly. “It will all be over soon.”

~End of Flashback~

When the Avenger’s found you, you were sitting in an alley. The only reason they noticed you was because of your glowing hair. It changed between different neon colors, seeing as how you couldn’t control the powers of the “ring”.

Eventually, the ring had transformed back into a simple ring, releasing your hand. The effects remained however. Your eyes and hair now changed rapidly, though the Avengers taught you how to control it. Now, they only changed with your mood. People joked about how you didn’t really have a power, and they were right as far as you could tell. Tony lovingly began calling you the ever-changing crayon of the group.

“Lady ___?” Thor’s gentle, yet powerful voice requested your attention, dragging you out of your mind. He continued without waiting for your response. “My brother wishes to speak with you.”

Your eyes transformed into an icy blue color and your hair transformed to a rosy pink, something that happened quite often when Loki’s name was mentioned. “Then why did he not come to me? It is sad that he sends his brother as a messenger bird.”

Thor’s mouth pointed down as his eyes glimmered with a clear substance. Tears. “Please, just speak with him. He will not listen to or see anyone else. He is very depressed.”

“Very well,” you sighed, your eyes shifting back to their normal (e/c) hue.

The door to Loki’s study remained open from the time you saw it to the time you stepped inside his room. “Thor said you wished to see me?”

Loki sat on the floor, his back against the bookshelf in his room. He made no sound or movement as you approached him. Even when you sat beside him, he remained completely still.

“I am sorry for the way I have treated you,” he said in a hushed tone.

You were taken by surprise. Loki had been the worst in the department of bullying. He even proceeded to ask why you were part of the team one day. It ended with your hair fading to pale blue and your eyes following suit. Everyone knew what that meant.

“W-what?”

Loki groaned slightly. “I am apologizing. I should not have been so rude to you. Tony informed me of your past recently, and I regret teasing you. I did not know that we had both been through similar trials.”

“It’s okay, Loki. I understand you’re a bit mean sometimes even if it isn’t intended. It’s just the way you are, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“Yes, there is something wrong with that,” Loki mumbled. “I care a great deal for you, ___. As you said, I am a bit rude sometimes. I do not understand how to act around you. You frustrate me greatly.”

Your hair flamed a bright red, signaling that you were embarrassed. “I’m sorry that I frustrate you.” You looked down, allowing your red locks to cover your face.

Loki smirked as he noticed your shyness. It was something he rarely witnessed. “Do not be sorry, my dear. It makes for an interesting experience.” His fingertips tilted your chin up so that he could look into your pink eyes, noticing your hair transition from flaming red to rosy pink. “You are so beautiful,” he breathed against your face.

Before you could reply, he pressed a quick kiss against your forehead. He pulled away with a proud smirk. “Now the color of your cheeks matches your hair.”

You attempted to hide your cheeks with your hands, avoiding his gaze; however, he simply pulled you closer. “Do not hide your pretty face from me, please? I quite enjoy knowing that I have this effect on you.”

“Okay,” you sighed, removing your hands from your face. After a moment of silence, you asked, “Do you really think my power is useless?”

Loki laughed softly, finding your insecurity amusing. “I find it very enlightening. It allows me to understand what you’re feeling, so no. I do not find it useless.”

“Tony calls me an ever-changing crayon,” you mumbled with a frown.

Loki laughed again, louder this time before kissing the top of your hair. “Well then you’re my ever-changing crayon, agreed?”

You leaned up, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. “Agreed.”
Yay another Loki one-shot! :D I hope you liked this one as well. I wanted to make it a little strained at first, but I love happy endings so of course.. :D
